(A slice of) Life (not according to Marshall Mathers)
What is life?
Marshall Mathers said it’s an obstacle.
Bill Hicks said the world, but implicitly life, is a ride.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said it’s the journey, not the destination.
As a recovering nihilist, life is all those things, and more, depending on the angle through which you can look at.
A few days ago I was thinking about the prospect of building and destroying, and which is easier.
And without a shadow of a doubt, destroying is much easier.
Throughout our lifetime on this planet, or at least in the 7000 or so years since we’ve been doing some documenting, we’ve continuously built, destroyed, rebuilt, only to destroy and build again.
Therefore, the question is, why do we keep building only to destroy and rebuild?
Einstein said that the measure of intelligence is the ability to change, but these changes are made by a select few for the masses that seemingly have no choice.
Yet the masses are the ones who are remembered more for their desire to use their learned skills such as writing, drawing, painting, sculpting, amongst others, to leave a hopeful lasting mark upon society.
